How we helped identify the right service mix to ensure financial sustainability

Situation

A nonprofit organization needed a strategic plan to help identify and analyze service opportunities and revenue streams for its business lines. As part of their planning, they needed an assessment of their capacity in order to develop a pragmatic plan.

Action

Worked with the leadership team, board and a planning committee to articulate a 3-year vision and strategy for the organization. The work began with a program/service review to inform future direction around programs, services, partnerships and community needs. We involved stakeholders and management in the process to drive an honest assessment. Based on the program review, capacity assessment and visioning, we created a strategy that provides focus, direction and defined metrics to measure success.

Impact

The organization had a much clearer picture of the strengths, opportunities and gaps in their services and program areas. Leadership understood how to prioritize their limited resources and capacity in areas of high value and impact. The plan was a helpful tool for fundraising and board development.
In a complex world there can be lots of uncertainty when planning for the future. Setting a strategy allows you create the future for your organization and not get mired in trying to predict the future, or in second guessing yourself every step of the way.
